Our Commitment to Youth

“The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils."  (Wm. Shakespeare)

"Get them to ring one chord, and they'll be hooked for life!"  ("Joe Barbershopper")

And what better time to start a love for music than when they're young?  Well, there isn't one!  We are committed to bring the joy of all music, not just vocal music, to young people.  And in these times of shrinking school budgets, our commitment has never been needed more!

Performance opportunities! Coaching! Competitions! Just making music fun!

Music educator, we want to help and support your efforts to introduce music into the lives of your students.  The Barbershop Harmony Society cooperates with the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) especially to bring our unique acapella musical style to your students.  Read on to see how we can provide opportunities for your students - and you - for further education and exposure to the wonderful world of music.

But our goal is bigger than that.  Our desire is for your students, not to learn something about music while they're in school, but for it continue to grow, and become a part of them for "for life!"

Here are the key components of our youth harmony programs:

  • Provide support to music educators.  We want to be sure that kids who love to sing and grow up doing so in school have an outlet in which to sing and perform for the rest of their lives.
  • Provide opporuntities for performance of outstanding youth groups in our communities
  • Provide grants to recognize excellent programs
